The holiday season is soon approaching so our apartment had to be cleaned, especially as there had been building work going on and everything was covered in a layer of dust.
I haven't been very well recently so I was invited on this little cleaning trip with my Father and Auntie to relax and catch some Spring rays. The garden was looking very pretty even if it is slowly falling into the sea! The weather wasn't all together fabulous but we did have a few good days with breakfasts on the balcony and lunch at 'Pepe Mesa's' merendero on El Playazo beach where I had some yummy boquerones en vinagre, since I have been going to Spain and eating they have been one of my favourite foods, for those of you who aren't acquainted with the humble dish that is boquerones en vinagre, it is an anchovie like fish that is eaten cold, they are marinated in olive oil and vinegar, then served with garlic, parsley and olive oil, it's a very popular Spanish tapas dish, and is absolutely delish!
Behind the merendero was the boat that is used in the 16th of July Festival 'Virgen Del Carmen' which celebrates the 'Virgen Del Carmen' the patron saint of fishermen and sailors, there are various parts to the celebration but the statues of the 'Virgen Del Carmens' carried through the street along the sea shore to 'Torrecilla Beach' where they are put into boats and sailed down the coast.
We also had some yummy meals at home with some scrummy Serrano ham and Manchego cheese from Iranzo the supermercado at the top of the hill. All in all it was a lovely little trip and helped slightly to brighten my mood. S.x
